The year kicks off a year of growth in membership, new fundraisers, and sponsorship of new Service Leadership Programs.
The formation of a Key Club at Cedars International Next Generation High School began in 2018 and was entirely a student-driven initiative. In September of 2019, the students approached the Kiwanis Club leadership with a request for sponsorship and beginning of a great new partnership was started. October 2019 – The club inherits a new fundraiser from the Kiwanis Club of Cedar Park – operation of a concession stand for the annual VW Harvest. Proceeds from the fundraiser benefit the Key Clubs in Leander and Ceder Park. It was a big success as we involved Kiwanis Family volunteers from the Key Club in-formation at Cedars International Next Generation High School, Key Club of Manor New Tech High School, and the CKI Club of The University of Texas at Austin.
Holiday Social
For the club’s last evening meeting of the calendar year, we had a white elephant gift exchange and did some planning for the next couple of months of service projects and activities.
SPRING 2020 – THE CLUB MOVES ONLINE
In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, club operations shift online while the board develops new strategies to engage members and continue to serve.
Presented online at the club’s annual meeting in May, immediate past president (2016-2018) John Cano was recognized with a Presidential Zeller for his efforts in enrolling the club in The Eliminate Project Model Club Pledge. We’ve nearly completed the pledge!
New Key Club Sponsorship and Projects
With the closure of the Kiwanis Club of Cedar Park, our club adopted the Key Clubs at Vandegrift High School, Rouse High School, and Glenn High School. In addition, one of the Cedar Park club’s best recurring fundraisers was the Fly the U.S. Flag program which we are continuing and expanding!
2021-22
Over the course of two weekends in September 2020, members of the club gathered to construct and install new sensory boards for the Mary Bailey Head Start Center in Georgetown.
We got a group together to volunteer at the Central Texas Food Bank, which we would like to schedule as a quarterly project.
In March of 2022, members from the club and across the division came together following a Division Council Meeting hosted by Lt. Governor John Cano to participate in another project at the center. Adrian Thompson brought snacks and refreshments and secured supplies to clean up the grounds. Bill Gordon also constructed a new blackboard for the center that could be hung up on the playground fence. Members of the Kiwanis Clubs of Northwest Austin, Round Rock, Silicon Hills, and all pitched in to clear away weeds, debris, and overgrowth to prepare the flower beds for spring planting.
We’re an organization of volunteers serving the community and children of greater Austin, Texas.
